SECRETARIAT
21;16-3-1
1973 Triple Crown Winner
Winner of $1,316,808 on the track
By Bold Ruler, out of Somethingroyal (by Princequillo)
Secretariat is, perhaps, one of the most qualified sires on furcadia. He ranked #35 on ESPN’s 100 Greatest Athletes of the 20th Century; one of only three non-humans on the list, and ranking above the likes of Man O’War and Citation. He was also ranked #2 in The Blood Horse’s Top US Racehorses of the 20th Century, beaten only by Man O'War - a horse that many would argue is great, but not as great as the second 'Big Red.' Secretariat is arguably the greatest racehorse of all time, and his list of qualifications make writing a story about him quite unnecessary:
Still Standing Track Record Holder for 1 1/16 Miles on Dirt at Aqueduct
Still Standing Track Record Holder for 1 ½ Miles on Grass at Belmont
Still Standing Track Record Holder for 1 ¼ Miles on Dirt at Churchill
Unofficial Track Record Breaker for 1 3/16 Miles on Dirt at Pimlico
Unofficial World Record Equaller for 1 5/8 Miles On Any Surface
Still-Standing World Record Holder for 1 ½ Miles On Dirt
Unofficial World Record Breaker for 1 3/16 Miles on Dirt
Unofficial World Record Breaker for 1 5/8 Miles On Dirt
Official World Record Breaker for 1 1/8 Miles On Dirt
In addition, he won the Kentucky Derby doing something no horse has ever done before or since. He ran each quarter faster than the one before it, in 25 1/5, 24, 23 4/5, 23 2/5 and 23. His final time was the fastest Derby in history, at 1:59 2/5 seconds. His Preakness was clocked at 1:53 2/5 by two Daily Racing Form clockers, 1:54 2/5 was clocked by the Pimlico clocker E.T. McLean Jr. (even though he admitted to clicking his stopwatch late as he was too fixated on Secretariat’s performance), and 1:55 was recorded by the infield teletimer. This, however, was a very unreliable time as the teletimer had suffered damage following a crowd crossing the track to get into the infield. The time was officially set at 1:54 2/5.
The Belmont Stakes, however, was undoubtedly the greatest moment in horse racing, if not the greatest moment in sports. With only four horses to challenge him, Secretariat ran his own race. Jockey Ron Turcotte let Secretariat run his own race, and by the time he hit the turn, he was ten lengths ahead of his rivals. Turcotte later said he knew he was ahead, but by how much, he didn’t know. As it turns out, by the time he looked over his shoulder near the wire, he was about a sixteenth of a mile ahead of the other horses. He won by an extraordinary 31 lengths and a world record time of 2:24, more than two seconds faster than the old record. This record still stands.

RATES
Secretariat is only available for live breeding with outside thoroughbred mares. All mares will be bred back to him for free should the breeding not take, although he has proven to be quite adept at getting it right the first time. His fee is 350,000, or 600,000 for two mares.
CONDITIONS
1. Live breedings only. Thoroughbreds cannot be registered if they were born from artificial insemination or any other method of breeding.
2. All mares must have their rear shoes removed prior to being shipped to Three Chimneys Farm for breeding. This is done for the safety of the stallion.
3. All mares must pass a pre-breeding examination with a licensed veterinarian before even booking to breed with Secretariat. They must be up to date on all shots and vaccines and must pass with a clean bill of health. Mares that are any less than healthy will not be eligible, for the safety of mare, stallion, and foal. This includes being tested for SCID and CEM. Any mares found to be carrying for either will not be eligible to breed.
4. Seeing as it’s hard to get something from ‘Secretariat,’ there is no restriction on the name. However, it must be approved by Secretariat’s people.
5. All fees are due when the foal stands and nurses. After this point, Three Chimneys Farm and Secretariat’s handlers take no responsibility for the foal.
6. All mare owners must present proof of registration so we know the mare is pure thoroughbred. If this is presented and is clear of any other problems, she is eligible to breed.
7. I don’t RP out live breedings. In fact, I don’t even RP what’s leading up to the breeding. If forced, however, I will do it so long as the fade to black method is employed.
