(I know people were curious about who-does-what-when, so this is the official schedule.)
5:15 AM: Jockeys and racehorse trainers should make their way to the barn and begin preparing their mounts.
6:00 AM: Barn staff should arrive around this time. Racers should be making their way to the track for practice.
6:30 AM: Feed pans are prepared in the loft.
6:45 AM: Racers should be finishing up their morning work-outs around this time.
7:25 AM: Feed pans are distributed to all of the horses.
8:30 AM: Morning turn-out begins. Generally, the mares and fillies that go in the pasture/in small groups are turned out first, then the colts and stallions that have individualized paddocks go out last. If done properly, this means that no male horse is lead past a female that could be in estrus.
10:45 AM: Hay nets and corner feeders are refilled. If any horse is on an extra afternoon ration, it should be placed in their stall now. Stalls are stripped out completely and remade.
12:15 PM: Morning turn-out ends. Colts and stallions should be brought back first, then fillies and mares.
1:30 PM: The large ring out back is now reserved for staff trainers to work their horses in peace.
2:30 PM: Stalls should be picked out again.
3:45 PM: The reserve on the back ring is now over and it is again free-for-all.
4:30 PM: Feed pans are prepared in the loft.
5:00 PM: Feed pans are distributed to all of the horses.
6:30 PM: Evening turn-out begins. Generally, the mares and fillies that go in the pasture/in small groups are turned out first, then the colts and stallions that have individualized paddocks go out last. If done properly, this means that no male horse is lead past a female that could be in estrus.
7:15 PM: Hay nets and corner feeders are refilled. Stalls are picked out.
8:30 PM: Evening turn-out ends. Colts and stallions should be brought back first, then fillies and mares.
10:30 PM: Everyone should be checked on one last time before leaving.
