So you want to learn more about the Arabian breed? Well this thread will be constantly updated with the correct facts you need to know, whether it be correct colors, types of Arabians, disciplines, or something else! The thread will be divided into seperate parts, each describing in full truth the characteristics and other information about the Arabian breed. I will provide links that have helped me prove these facts.
Colors:
Arabians may come in some very flashy patterns, but don't get too excited, because there are SOME patterns you will never find an Arabian in! The basic colors that are generally quite popular are all shades of bay, chestnut, gray, and black. Some special patterns you might find on an Arabian are the following: Sabino, Roan(though this is VERY rare!), and rabicano. No, you will NEVER EVER find an overo, tobiano or tovero Arabian. The only ones that would ever have a pattern like that are half-Arabians. Another important fact to note; Arabians DO NOT COME IN DILUTES! This means there is no such thing as a purebred palomino, cremello, perlino or buckskin Arabian.
Characteristics:
Head: Dished face, big eyes, broad forehead.
Neck: Long, upright, almost swan-like neck in most cases.
Ears: Tips of ears are usually tipped inwards slightly, but not too much. Usually medium-sized and alert.
Body: Generally small, skinny, and feminine looking.
Tail: Generally the tail is carried high, though sometimes there might be some Arabians that do not always carry their tail as high as most.
Back: Medium to short length back, normally found more on the flat side compared to curved backs.
Hindquarters, shoulders, legs: Strong hindquarters, usually only slightly rounded. High withers, sloping shoulder, legs in proportion to body.
Personality:[/u]
Despite the Arabian being "hotblooded", most Arabians are very calm, docile creatures. Though this is not always the case, as you can easily find an ill-tempered Arabian amongst many gentle ones. So really, this fact varies quite a bit.
Disciplines:
To be very honest, Arabians can be found doing ALMOST any discipline! Some people choose to compete with their Arabians in mainly halter, saddle seat and fine harness type classes, and some other people might decide to show their Arabians in english events or western events! What else can this amazing breed be found doing? Racing! You bet, you CAN find Arabians out on the track just like those zippy Thoroughbreds!
