The manuevers in gaits include: walk, trot, canter, gallop, side-step(at walk, trot, and/or canter), halt, and pivot.
*Both judges and exhibitors should keep in mind that different ages/breeds of horses will perform at different rates of speed from one another!
*At all gaits and during all maneuvers, care should be taken to give all exhibitors plenty of space, and to not crash into another equine, the railing, or the judge!
*Animations detailing the manuevers can be found here: www.geocities.com/furcadiahorses/animations.html
-Walk
A steady four-beat gait, the slowest of them all.
-Trot
A somewhat faster two-beat gait.
-Canter
Moderately faster, a three-beat gait.
-Gallop
The fastest gait, also four-beats but . This does NOT mean to fly around the ring, it is still a controlled pace.
-Halt
Stop and stand still. [Be sure you are relatively square -- if your avatar stops and your legs make it look as if you are moving, tap the 'stand' button quickly to look smart!]
-Pivot
Maneuver performed at the halt. Perform a 180-degree turn, towards the -inside- of the ring. [Use the insert/delete keys to rotate.]
-Side-Step
Performed one at a time, generally just before the end of the class; a lateral step taken in whichever gait mandated (walk, trot, or canter). [To perform this, walk in the direction you should head toward and quickly hit the insert or delete key to face the direction you were just facing.]
RIDER DS USAGE: Because of the necessity to pivot, riding DS is NOT utilized in Gaits classes. It is at the show organizer and judge's discrecion as to whether or not riders must still be present.
