A short course of jumps will be set up for the horse and rider to navigate. The horse and sometimes the rider will be required to post when they enter the ring. The post consists of their entrance into the ring and their approach to the first jump, and grooming/attire should be considered in the post. The 'quality' of role-play is not being judged here. A clear, easy-to-read paragraph should be placed higher than one with many archaic, bizzare words or excessive brand names strewn about at random.
The course is timed and faults are judged. Time is generally only used as a tie breaker, however, faults are seriously judged. It is better to be a few seconds slower and clean than a few seconds faster with lots of faults. (Faults do not count as part of your time; this is NOT done on a time-plus-faults scoring method. Scores should be posted as '#.##sec and # faults.')
As a general GUIDE, and not a hard-and-fast rule: the class is judged first and foremost by faults, secondly by time, and third by post. However, a horse with improper turn out should NOT place over a horse with proper turn out.
Divisions for Hunter Classes: Pony (for horses measuring 14.3hh or under), Green (for inexperienced horses with jumps not exceeding 3'9"), Regular (jumps at 4', open to all)
RIDING DS USAGE: Riding DS is MANDATORY for this class. Horses should -think- about how they are taking the fences and go wide, and take wide turns as to move their rider around less for a better overall picture.
