Horse and rider will be given one maneuver used in Gaits to post on: walk, trot, canter, gallop, or pivot. Halt and side-step are not recommended -- halt is too short, side-step is too consuming for just two posts each. This will be announced at the start of the show so that horse and rider may prepare. The maneuver will be the same for all horses in the class, unlike in Equitation.
The horse's responsiveness to aids, willingness to please, attitude, and general way of going will be judged. How the rider instructs the horse is not necessarily important, although he or she should try to show the horse off to the best of his or her ability. The horse should respond to whatever commands the rider used.
Each participant gets two posts: two for the horse, two for the rider. It does not matter which goes first, but rider-first is generally preferred, as it will be in the rider's first post that the command is given.
The 'quality' of roleplay is not being judged here. It is simply the horse's ability to be a 'pleasure to ride'.
RIDING DS USAGE: Riding DS may be used in English Pleasure at the show chairperson and judge's discresion.
