Known as "the dressage of the Western world", one horse performs in the ring at a time and is judged on performing difficult maneuvers with ease. Manuevers include the sliding stop (sliding into a stop from a lope or gallop), rollbacks (a fast turn followed immediately by galloping), spins (turning in one spot on the haunches), and much circling at the lope and gallop. The horse considered by the judge to perform the manuevers most perfectly wins.
The 'course list' for reining is to be posted before the show, which tells which manuevers are to be completed and where.
