Alright, so I'm trying to come up with some more summer events and I want requests from you guys. With the craziness related to the Triple Crown wearing down and a couple of weeks before the Summer Heatwave Series begins, I'd like to know what you guys are looking for. What do you wish there was more of? What would you love to compete in right now? What are YOU willing to do -- judge, advertise, come up with show names? You guys know that I cannot judge every show myself, since I like to compete, and also that I have a job so I can't always be on to hold shows.
Some things I definately want to hold at TREC this summer:
--Arabian-specific halter shows. I don't RP full Arabs so this is actually a good one for me because I can judge it. (But if you want to hold an Arab show, go right ahead!)
--Dressage shows. There is a dressage event in the SHS English, but I want more independent dressage shows that are not a part of three-day-eventing.
--Three-day-eventing. The summertime makes this especially possible since we all, for the most part, have more free time. I'd like to offer a "window" in which horses can compete, i.e., show up between 1PM and 4PM FST on Saturday for your dressage test -- that makes it a little more flexible. (We dabbled with this last year at the SHS and it actually worked.)
--More two-year-old and senior racing. There aren't enough opportunities for this ESPECIALLY for the old farts <3. Holding a race is really, REALLY simple if you're staff (say a command, wait for horses to cross finish line. tada!) and I encourage everyone to host one or two. I'll be setting up some.
--More weekday events. The problem with this, for me, is that I get my schedule for Monday-Sunday on Saturday night, so it can be tough to plan weekday events in advance. (This is why the exact start times for the SHS will not be announced until just before the show begins.) However, I never work Tuesdays (since I have agility class, I always have them off -- but I don't always have class, see) so expect to see some shows then.
So reply here. You can toss out a quick idea -- "We need more halter shows" or "How about more 2-year-old races", or you can offer real events to base shows on, name ideas, or volunteer your time. I can't handle everything. Volunteering to at the very least advertise on other boards is a HUGE help for me while I try to get things set up.
